What is Konpa and Zouk?
Konpa (sometimes written Compas Direct, konpa direk, kompa or compa) is a musical genre as well as a dance that originates from Haïti. It was first explicitly named «Compas Direct» by Nemours Jean-Baptiste on a recording released in 1955. It involves mostly medium-to-fast tempo beats with an emphasis on electric guitars, synthesizers, and either a solo alto saxophone, a horn section or the synthesizer equivalent. Unlike zouk, the lyrics are mostly in Haitian Creole, and it has a faster rhythm than zouk.
In North America, kompa festivals take place frequently in Montreal, New York, Miami, and Boston.
Zouk is a style of rhythmic music originating from Haiti, later spreading to the French Caribbean islands of Guadeloupe and Martinique. It has its roots in Cadence music from Dominica, as popularizedby Grammacks and Exile One. Zouk means 'party' in the local creole of French with English and African influences, all three of which contribute the sound. In Europe it is particularly popular in France, while on the African islands of Cape Verde they have developed their own type of Zouk.
Do I really have to be 21+ to get on?
Yes, 21+. This is the policy of Spirit of Boston and all places in Boston serving alcohol. No exception can be made, it's the law. Sorry kiddies :-)
What do I wear?
Women's Attire; Should be similar to Cocktail party or semi formal - Dress to impress, Whatever you feel will make you the hottest female on the boat. Guys Business Casual and stylish.
How can I get tickets?
We have provided many options for you to get tickets for the Konpa Cruise. See our ticket section of the website,. You can call us and a rep can make arrangements to meet you in the Boston area. You can buy tickets here online. We also have locations around Mattapan, Dorchester, and Somerville areas.
Just keep in mind that TICKET PRICES GO UP as time progresses, so act early to get discount.
What if I just want to go on the cruise and skip the pre-board mixer and fashionshow?
The ticket price is fixed for the entire evening. We want our guests to enjoy the full experience of Fashion, Rhythm, and Culture. Plus, the food will be served during the pre-board mixer and this is also where you pick up your boarding pass for the boat.

What if I don't want to listen to Konpa all night?
We have 4 floors, with two differen tDJs, playing different type of music. The first floor will have NYC's DJ K' Black spinning the hottest Reggae, Dance hall Soca, Calypso, and more. So if you want to little variety, you can bounce back and forth between floors to get different flavors. All parts of the Caribbean will be represented.
